Overview: I had the pleasure of working on a project to develop a visual brand identity for Belltown Bloom - an awesome indoor festival that happens every year in Belltown. I wanted to create a design that would really capture the essence the gritty nostalgic rocker vibes of the festival and set it apart from other events in the area. I'm happy to say that I was able to create a cohesive visual identity that effectively communicated the festival's unique features and values. The design was bright, bold, and playful, and really captured the fun and excitement of the event. It was a great project to work on, and I'm really proud of the final result. If you're ever in the area during the festival, be sure to check it out!

Challenge: So, Belltown Bloom has got an awesome line-up and some serious punk rock energy - but there's a bit of a problem. The branding just isn't quite hitting the mark. It's not capturing the same level of fun and excitement that you'll experience at the festival. So, I’m faced with a challenge: How can I develop a cohesive brand identity that accurately reflects the Belltown Bloom Fun? I need to find a way to convey that same sense of punk rock energy and excitement in the branding. But fear not! I’m up to the task. I am excited to take on this challenge and create a brand identity that will truly capture the essence of Belltown Bloom.

Solution: For Belltown Bloom's brand identity issue, I came up with a unique solution that is sure to stand out. I decided to embrace the punk rocker vibes and incorporate a throwback grunge aesthetic. With the recipe of going 50% analog and 50% digital, I started hand-drawing some cool "ROCKer creatures" using rocks from my garden and other found objects in my apartment. I then used Procreate on my iPad to add some fun illustrations to the images of the rocks. To keep everything consistent, I hand-touched all the body copy. I chose a bright, playful color palette and grunge ink-on-paper texture to further emphasize the brand's high-energy, rocker attitude. This new visual identity will help Belltown Bloom stand out from other festivals and accurately reflect its unique personality.

Process

Punk ROCKer

The birth of these Punk Rockers began in my garden. I hand-selected each rock. I then found a fun necklace piece with colorful strings and used that to shape the hair. The final step was throwing my image into Procreate and adding color and illustrations to fit each ROCKer’s style.

Final Thoughts

At first, I wasn't too keen on going old-school and using analog methods to create the ROCKer creatures for the project. However, as I started working on it, I found it to be so much fun! And then, I stumbled upon this necklace made of several colored strings that I had laying around. That's when inspiration struck, and I decided to style the strings into different punk hairstyles for the ROCKer creatures. The end result turned out to be super cool and unexpected, and I'm really glad I followed my creative instincts!
